R-08 · CONSENSUS DATA TERMINAL
PILOTFounding Engineer, Consensus Data Terminal
A corpus nobody else has is worth nothing until somebody can ask it a question, and the asking is a product problem before it is a modelling one.

BASE SALARY

Founding equity in the company you would actually work on.
01
The problem this role exists for
The Terminal is where an organisation puts the Consensus record to work alongside its own data: entity resolution, extraction and models in one surface. You would build that surface, and the query path underneath it, which has to stay fast while joining a customer's records to a belief corpus that grows every day.
The comparison people reach for is one instrument that resolves messy internal data into entities and another that puts a live market on a screen. We are building where those overlap, on a substrate neither of them has. It is in early pilots, which means whoever takes this role decides a great deal of what it becomes.

02
Your first week, and a normal Tuesday
Week one you sit in on a pilot call, including the one with CN Solar Labs Capital, and watch somebody try to answer a real question with the Terminal as it stands. Whatever they could not do becomes your first fortnight.
A normal Tuesday: interface work in the morning while it is quiet, because this is a dense screen and it needs care, then the query path underneath it, then usually a pilot customer with something specific and slightly unreasonable. The loop from a customer saying a thing to that thing existing is measured in days here, and it is the main reason to take the job.
WHAT YOU WOULD BE WORKING IN
TypeScript and React on the surface, a serious query layer underneath, a columnar store and Postgres behind that, Python where the models live. Broad on purpose: the Terminal touches nearly everything the group has, and we would rather you were opinionated than pre-qualified.
We do not screen on tools. Nothing above is a requirement, and a stack list is a poor proxy for whether somebody can do the work. If you have gone deep in something else and would arrive with a view about why half of this is the wrong choice, that is an argument we would like to have.
03
What you would own
Not a ticket queue and not a slice of somebody else’s roadmap. Four things with your name against them in the decision log, from the first fortnight.
01
The surface
One screen where a question about a market, a counterparty or a launch is answered.
02
The query path
Joins across the corpus and the customer's own records, fast enough to keep asking.
03
The pilots
Direct contact with the first customers, CN Solar Labs Capital among them.
04
The shape
It is early. What this product is a year from now is substantially your decision.
04
What we are looking for
MINIMUM
What we would need to see
- ▸You have built a data-dense interface that experts chose to use, and can say what made them stay
- ▸Genuine range: schema, service and interface in the same week
- ▸You have worked directly with the people using what you build
- ▸Comfort shipping into a product still in pilot, where the shape is not settled
PREFERRED
What would move you up the pile
- ▸Financial terminals, BI tools, analytics products, or anything where analysts were the users
- ▸Query planning or performance work against an interactive latency budget
- ▸Design ability, or at minimum strong taste and the willingness to argue for it
- ▸You have been early on a product before and can describe what you got wrong
Nothing in the preferred column is a filter, and neither list is applied before a human reads you. No degree is required for anything on this page, and we have hired people with doctorates and people with no degree at all into the same rooms. If you meet most of the minimum and not all of it, write anyway and say in the first paragraph which part you do not meet.
05
Pay, and everything around it
£220,000 to £380,000 base, plus 0.60% to 1.30% of the Terminal, reviewed upward annually without you having to ask. The band is published here rather than discovered three conversations in, and the offer is the same whether or not you negotiate, because the band is the band.
Everything else is what the whole group gets and is not negotiated per offer: a holiday floor rather than a ceiling, health and dental and vision for your family, sixteen to twenty weeks of parental leave for every parent, a funded setup, monthly paid group meetups somewhere in the world, one required funded trip abroad each year, a protected day a week on the research ventures, and no non-competes.
The full list, the salary band chart and the visa sponsorship map are on the careers page. We sponsor without qualification across seventeen jurisdictions and publish exactly which.
06
Apply for this role
Four steps: a conversation with somebody who would actually work with you, one real problem drawn from work we are genuinely doing, a working session on your solution, and a decision within a week of that session. The problem is paid if it runs long, and you keep the work either way.
